Euphoria at the Emmys

One of the most well-known and talked about shows is Euphoria. If you've been living under a rock and don't know what Euphoria is, the show is a teen drama series following 17-year-old drug addict Rue and her friends as they experience love, loss, addiction, friendships and so much more.

On Monday, September 12th, Zendaya—who plays Rue—set new records at the Emmys being the youngest two-time winner of the outstanding actress award in a drama series. Zendaya is also now the first Black woman to win the lead actress in a drama series award. Back in 2020, Zendaya won the same award for Euphoria.

In her speech, Zendaya said, “My greatest wish for Euphoria was that it could help heal people and I just want to say thank you to everyone who has shared their story with me. I want you to know that anyone who has loved a Rue or feels like they are Rue, I want you to know that I’m so grateful for your stories and I carry them with me and I carry them with her.”

The show is often dark and touches on sensitive topics, but also has opened up the conversation for these topics people often shy away from.

Euphoria was nominated for 16 Emmy Awards this year and the show came away with 5 of them, not including Zendaya’s Emmy. The show won Outstanding Cinematography For A Single-Camera Series (One Hour), Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing For A Drama Series, Outstanding Contemporary Makeup (Non-Prosthetic), Outstanding Guest Actor In a Drama Series and Outstanding Choreography For Scripted Programming.

Since the show first premiered in 2019, Euphoria has been nominated for a total of 25 Emmy Awards and the show has won 9 of them.

As we can see through the overflow of awards and praise, we can assume this show is worth the hype. If you have never seen this binge-worthy show, we at the Edge highly recommend tuning into HBO Max (which has a discounted subscription with your Elon email) to watch before the third season releases. You don't want to miss the potentially award-winning performances that are to come in future seasons!
