Get Excited for Gender-Inclusive Beauty Brands
For years, we have seen women’s beauty products, women’s makeup and women's skincare. We see the beauty commercials full of models and actresses who represent the female population. The cosmetic industry is geared towards women; that’s how it has always been. That needs to change. What about men? The only things we see for them are grooming or masculine products represented by athletes and male models. Well, beauty brands are changing the conversation. Thank gosh.
Gender neutral beauty brands are here to stay, and they are the real deal. Let’s talk about why it is cool to include everyone. That’s right—everyone and anyone, no matter their skin type, gender, race, or age. And anyone can buy these brands and use these products.
Here are some of our favorite gender inclusive brands:
Fenty Beauty → An amazing brand created by Rihanna, Fenty Beauty has been known to include people of all colors, genders and races. Fenty Skin, her skincare brand, focuses on being gender-inclusive. Products include toners, cleansers, lotions and perfumes. Rihanna said herself, “Fenty Skin is everything I wish I had back then, I wanted it to feel approachable, easy, and to take the pressure off choosing a routine, so I created one for everyone.”
Trixie Cosmetics → This fun brand is founded by Trixie Mattel, winner of the third season of RuPaul’s Drag Race All-Stars. We love Drag Race. Mattel’s makeup is for drag queens and for other people. Her brand is bright and colorful with amazing products and packaging. We definitely recommend this brand.
Milk Makeup → Milk Makeup is a sustainable, clean and inclusive makeup and skincare brand! They currently donate two percent of their sales to The Center, a safe space for the LGBTQIA+ community. I’m sure most of us can say that their products are the best. We love their Blur Stick, where they featured gender-fluid individuals in their campaign.
(MALIN+GOETZ) → This NYC based, queer-owned company is one of the top genderless beauty brands right now. Since 2004, they have been gender neutral. They are known for their simple branded skincare, body and fragrance products made for everyone. Shoutout to Matthew Malin and Andrew Goetz; they are awesome!
Golf Le Fleur → Tyler The Creator created this lifestyle brand in 2021 with genderless fragrance, nail polishes and accessories. The unique company’s products are non-toxic and cruelty-free. The musician and rapper turned beauty mogul wants to include all through his French Waltz perfume and nail polish collections.
Morphe → A company known for working with popular influencers and stars like Todrick Hall, Jaclyn Hill and Bretman Rock, Morphe is a brand that embraces everyone. Their brand donates most of its proceeds to various LGBTQ+ nonprofits. Morphe even has a student squad, with seven members of GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network). This group of student activists are from different parts of the U.S. representing Morphe and our youth. We love to see it!
All six of these brands highlight beauty in a way that is modern and cool. Beauty is not defined by gender. It’s 2022, beauty should not be specifically made for men or women. It’s for all. Gender norms are so not cool anymore, inclusivity is.
