Exploring Pleasing
Harry Styles, a world-famous pop star now in his solo career after his rise to fame from his participation in the British boyband One Direction has modeled, acted and sang since he was 16 years old. His most recent accomplishment was finishing off his two-year international music tour, “Love on Tour.” He released “Harry’s House” during his time on tour and started his company, Pleasing.
What is Pleasing?
Pleasing is a beauty brand created by Harry Styles. Styles shared in a Harper's Bazaar article that “Starting the brand felt exciting because creating great products is a unique way to make people feel good”.
About the brand
Pleasing is a vegan, cruelty-free, gluten-free and ethically sourced brand. And it has “clean standards,” meaning it makes sure no harmful chemicals are used in its products. On the FAQ page of the website, Pleasing states, “Pleasing is committed to operating in an economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable manner.”
Collections
Fancy Friends, the most recent of the collections, features eccentric characters and colors, combining an “optimistic, imaginative daydream with an unsettling, anxious nightmare.” With eight new nail polish colors, each color has a character representing it, alongside a T-shirt featuring each character. This collection includes “Dustin the Black Cat,” “Hairy Mermaid,” “Sticky Segments,” “Don’t Lady Bug Me,” “One Legged Flamingo,” “Green Frog With Envy,” “Grape Feet” and “Lion’s Underpants.” Each collection partners with a different foundation, Fancy Friends’ being GlamourGals. GlamourGals is an organization dedicated to fostering intergenerational connections and enriching the lives of older individuals. “Their mission is to empower beautiful connections across generations.”
In this micro-collection, five new nail polish colors were announced, with matching hoodies and T-shirts for “Live Laugh Lilac” and “Shrub.” The Pollinators' polishes are biodegradable and are meant to remind you of summer. “Pollinators is a colorful celebration of that certain breed of ferocious optimism that blossoms this time of year and swells as the summer months draw in.” Pollinators partnered with Project Roots, a 501(C)3 nonprofit organization that educates their community of South Phoenix, Arizona about growing food while supporting the homeless and those with food insecurities. “It aims to provide and promote a healthier, natural and more sustainable way of living.”
“Super Magic Family Time is inspired by an alternate, knowingly retro look to a festive color palette.” Super Magic Family Time partnered with Covenant House, a lifeline for LGBTQ+ youth and young adults experiencing homelessness. “With safe spaces in 34 cities across six countries, Covenant House builds a bridge to hope for young people facing homelessness and survivors of human trafficking through unconditional love, absolute respect and relentless support.” This collection features four new shades: “Syrupberry,” “Pea in the Punch,” “Pinchrome” and “Bottoms Up.” This collection also had the Pleasing Pen in “Special Edition Gold,” featuring natural lingonberry, okra and hyaluronic salt.
Hot Holiday partners with Queercircle, a UK-based LQBTQ+-led charity. “Queercircle carries out its work through a creative-driven mission that is aligned with Pleasing’s through a shared priority of championing emerging talent.” This collection features four new shades of nail polish: “Beach Ball,” “Nonna’s Sorbet,” “Harry’s Chair” and “Wet Bottoms.” The micro-collection also has a sweatshirt, the Pleasing Beach Bag, a Pleasing beach towel and two scents — “The Pleasing Spritz Probiotic Soothing Tonic” and “Everybody Oil Matte Moisture Glow.”
Pleasing’s first collaboration collection with Marco Ribeiro started Pleasing’s first foray into makeup. “Encapsulated across the entire Pleasing x Marco Ribeiro collection are shared touchpoints of creativity that align Ribeiro’s colorful vision with that of our own.” This collection features five new nail polishes: “Incrível Marrom Fosco,” “Aura Laranja Gelatina,” “Oceano Água-Marinha Cremoso,” “Cítrico Vibrante Cremoso” and “Borgonha Açai Cremoso.” The collection also included a special edition sweatshirt alongside powder pigments and cream pigments.
Pleasing’s second micro-collection “evokes the feeling of lying in a park in early spring.” The collection has two different T-shirts, a crewneck, hand and nail balm, acid drops and four new nail polish shades — “Sprouting,” “Tender Bud,” “Vine Ripe” and “The Whole Universe.” Shroom Bloom partnered with Cool Earth, a global charity that supports those protecting our rainforests. “Cool Earth is dedicated to backing people who protect rainforests, and fighting the climate crisis at the root with projects that create choice, stop deforestation and cool our Earth.”
Pleasing’s first micro-collection, Perfect Pearl, is “inspired from the pearl within the oyster.” The collection featured four new shades of polish: “Perfect Pearl,” “Pearly Tops,” “Inky Pearl” and “Granny’s Pink Pearl.” Other products in the collection include the Pleasing crewneck, the Pleasing Pen, and the Pearlescent Illuminating Serum. This collection partnered with Nest, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization supporting artisan growth through gender equality and inclusion. “Through programs that support the wellbeing of artisans both in the United States and globally, Nest is bringing radical transparency and opportunity to the informal hand-worker economy.”
