The Best Food in Florence

Let’s be clear: one of the best parts about Florence is the food. Florence has some of the most amazing dishes you’ll ever taste, and all for a reasonable price and portion. Below are a few of the best restaurants in Florence with their signature dishes. Elon study abroad students, pay close attention; meal voucher restaurants are included!

Il Tarocchi

Located across the Ponte Vecchio, Il Tarocchi is home to the best dish I’ve ever tasted — the Pear Ravioli. Pictured below, it is a perfect blend of sweet and savory. It doesn’t sound appealing to everyone at first, but it's a must try! I was hesitant, but after that I never went back.

Other amazing dishes include Gnudi, which is gnocchi-like dumplings stuffed with spinach and cottage cheese in parmesan cheese. Both dishes are listed as “i primi piatti”, meaning the first dish. This means they are on the smaller side, but pairing them with an appetizer of caprese or prosciutto and an after dinner gelato will make it a very filling meal.

Trattoria 13 Gobbi

Trattoria 13 Gobbi is home to the most incredible rigatoni. It is a tomato and stracciatella mozzarella dish served in a massive glass mixing bowl. It is one of their signature dishes and has recently been rated by social media influencer “How Kev Eats”, where Kevin Noparvar reviews food from restaurants all around the world. At the time of the review, Kevin gave the rigatoni one of the highest ratings he had ever given a pasta dish.

Other signature dishes include Fiorentina steak and chitarroni, which is pasta with garlic, olive oil, chili and bacon. The atmosphere at Trattoria 13 Gobbi is perfect for a long family dinner or a romantic date night.

Unfortunately, it is not a restaurant that takes meal vouchers, but the pricing is more than reasonable for the quality.

Da Que Ganzi Trattoria Osteria

If you’re looking for seafood pasta dishes, you’ve come to the right place. Da Que Ganzi Trattoria Osteria has a true Italian feel inside the restaurant, and the owner is always working and incredibly friendly.

Their most notable dishes include an appetizer of fried pizza dough balls with prosciutto and stracchino cheese, and main courses of Cuttlefish black ink tagliolini with calamari and sage as well as linguine with clams. Of course, they offer incredible dishes without seafood for those who wouldn’t prefer it, but they are most known for their seafood pastas. They are definitely worth giving a try!

Ristorante Pizzeria Dante

Ristorante Pizzeria Dante is most popular amongst study abroad students. Dante himself gives all study abroad students unlimited free wine! Not to mention, the food is incredible too. It is a great place to go with a large group of friends to enjoy a delicious meal with wine!

Dante’s best dishes include the truffle sausage gnocchi and spicy rigatoni. Even for just a date night or family dinner, Dantes provides a great candlelit dining experience.

Tre Panche

Tre Panche is a gorgeous rooftop restaurant, with an incredible view of the Duomo and Ponte Vecchio. It’s a little fancier and known for their amazing white and black truffle dishes. It is the absolute best place to enjoy a long, filling dinner.

Their best dishes include all their white truffle pasta, ravioli and risotto dishes. They are most known for their use of truffle!

Gelato

What better way to end the night than taking a stroll through the center of Florence, taking in the street music with gelato in hand? The two best gelato places to end your day at are La Cantina and Eduardos. La Cantina is just over the Ponte Vecchio and has an abundance of amazing flavors, including Nutella and ginger pineapple mint. Eduardos is located right beside the Duomo and has very natural, authentic flavors. They also make their own cones! My personal favorites are mint, honey lavender and cinnamon!
