Looking for Powder Days? Look No Further.

Every skier’s dream is a powder day. There is simply nothing better than waking up early to a fresh foot (or more) of snow, getting out on the mountain right when it opens and making the first tracks. These are the days us East Coast skiers dream of.

These types of days are becoming very scarce on the East Coast, especially with the changing climate. The best way to guarantee a powder day? Ski out west. Not only are the conditions better, but the days are longer and sunny. The ski season doesn’t come to an end in March like it does in the Northeast; out west, it is only just beginning…

The best time to ski in Utah is February through early May. Spring skiing really kicks off in March, when the weather is the nicest and the snowfall is constant. There are more than a dozen ski resorts in Utah, ideal for skiers/snowboarders at all different levels.

Deer Valley is the perfect family ski trip resort. This ski resort is truly for all levels of skiing and is great for families with different preferences. It’s probably the most diverse of the four resorts because it caters to skiers of all levels. And, the resort has a strict skiers-only policy, so there are no snowboarders on the mountains at any time!

For beginners just starting to get their ski legs, there are an abundance of green trails to choose from. Deer Valley is made up of six peaks, and five of the six are home to these beginner friendly trails. Alternatively, for the advanced, dare-devil skiers, there are chutes that classify as a double black diamond. Deer Valley has a total of eight of them, and all require mandatory air time (you must “drop in” in order to enter the chute). They are incredibly daunting and dangerous, but provide an exhilarating experience for an advanced skier.

Just two miles down the road is Park City Mountain Resort, a resort with an Apres Ski vibe like no other. The town of Park City is at the base of the slopes and has a great post-ski atmosphere for drinks, food and fun. The resort itself is known for its extensive terrain parks, bowls and getting an average of 30 feet of snow each season! Park City is also the largest ski resort in the United States.

If you’re looking for more advanced terrain, Alta and Snowbird are the resorts for you. The two resorts are adjacent to one another, and a combined ski pass can be purchased so you can ski at both places easily! Both have some areas for beginner skiers, but these mountains specialize in ungroomed, steep trails for advanced skiers.

No matter where you choose, you simply can’t go wrong. If you’re a skier looking for a next adventure, go to Utah! And act fast — spring skiing is just around the corner!
