Rosie Darling is Taking Hollywood by Storm

This year Rosie Darling’s birthday was different. Instead of feeling excited to celebrate the day that she was born, she was exhausted and en route to Nashville to perform in the fifth show of Ashley Kutcher’s tour. It was one of the only times where she had back-to-back performances. Taking the stage in one of the largest musically oriented cities in the country on her birthday—after a show in Atlanta less than 24 hours prior—tested Darling’s limits. To add more pressure, one of her best friends from college was in the audience.

She met her best friend in the Sweet Signature’s acapella group here at Elon University. Now she’s a budding pop star.

Darling fell in love with music during her early middle school years when she started singing and writing songs. However, performing was something that she took on at Elon.

“I had this one solo with Sweet Signatures that was a slowed down version of Beyonce’s ‘Crazy in Love,’” she said. “It was the first time that I was onstage that I felt like everyone was just there to listen.”

This performance gave Darling a confidence boost to continue performing. It was nice to build confidence in an environment that didn’t have a lot of pressure, she said.

Next, she took on the crowds at two community favorites – The Oak House and The Fat Frogg with frequent performances. Darling and her best friend simultaneously posted covers of popular songs on social media in hopes that they would gain the attention of original artists.

“One time, my friend and I posted a cover of the Chainsmokers’ song, Closer,” Darling said. “They liked the video and I remember being so excited.”

As an upperclassman, she attended the Elon in L.A. program and got her first taste of her future. It started to become real.

Once she graduated, she had her heart set on moving to L.A. and was networking back and forth. She had put out a few songs at this point with the help of some of the Elon music students and studios.

Then came her first EP, “Coping.”

After that, the world flipped upside down with the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. People were only leaving their homes for the absolute necessities. Strict limitations were placed on the number of visitors that were allowed in hospitals. Masks were the norm. Graduations were online. Wedding invitations were dated “TBD” with no clue what the future held.

Soaking up all the good things that life had to offer seemed impossible. This was the inspiration for Rosie Darling’s most recent EP, “Golden Age.”

“Some people in my family were having babies during COVID and weddings were hard,” she said. “There was an extra hoop to jump through for things that were supposed to be simple and celebratory.”

“Golden Age” came out in 2022. After feeling trapped for so long, Darling was ready to get out there and perform again.

Then, she saw a social media post by Ashley Kutcher about her looking for an opener on her 2023 tour. Kutcher and Darling had followed each other on various social media platforms for a bit and knew eventually that their paths would cross.

“She posted about going on tour and I hit up my manager asking if they had an opener yet,” she said. “There was some behind the scenes stuff with our teams but it all came together pretty quickly.”

A month after Darling found out that she would be opening for Kutcher on tour she was off! It was a ten show tour, and her favorite performance was the Nashville show.

Feeling incredibly overwhelmed, she was worried to go out and perform. However, the crowd sang happy birthday to her with an energy that was unforgettable.

The tour recently concluded, but Darling has plans for her future. She continues to put out music – her most recent release was “Lost on You” which is available on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes and more!
