Florence: A City to Savor

Studying abroad in Florence is a dream come true for any student. The city's cobblestone streets, rich art history and irresistible food make it a place you never want to leave. While there’s no shortage of things to do, eat and see, a few spots stood out during my time there, becoming cherished favorites.

1. Sandwichic: Fresh Paninis Made with Love

SandwiChic is more than just a panini shop — it’s an experience. This restaurant is run by three incredibly friendly men, Marco, Andrea and Frencesco. This tiny spot draws a crowd daily, and for good reason. The sandwiches are made fresh before your eyes, each ingredient thoughtfully chosen and layered. You can chat with the crew and ask them what their sandwich of choice is and they will hand-craft it fresh with precision in front of your eyes. Yes, the line can stretch down the block, but trust me, it’s worth the wait. Watching the owners work with such care and chatting with other customers makes the time fly. And when you finally sink your teeth into that first bite? Pure heaven.

2. Sunday Flea Market at Santo Spirito

Sundays in Santo Spirito are like stepping into a treasure trove. This lively flea market has something for everyone — handmade jewelry, vintage designer pieces, Levi’s jeans and even colorful candies that transport you back to childhood. The buzzing square is filled with locals and tourists alike, creating a vibrant yet laid-back atmosphere. I loved wandering from stall to stall, chatting with vendors and discovering unique items I could never find back home. The flea market perfectly captures the essence of Florence: a blend of history, creativity and charm.

3. Trattoria 13 Gobbi: The Best Rigatoni of Your Life

If you’re craving a cozy, home-cooked Italian meal, look no further than Trattoria 13 Gobbi. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with warmth — both from the friendly staff and the intimate, rustic ambiance. The highlight here is the rigatoni with a creamy tomato sauce that’s nothing short of perfection. Served in a piping-hot skillet, the dish is rich, flavorful and utterly comforting. Dining at 13 Gobbi feels like being welcomed into someone’s home for a meal made with love and tradition.
