Lessons For a Long Distance Relationship

Long Distance is difficult, but is filled with love and excitement. Distance makes the heart grow fonder. Here are some tips and tricks to make any distance feel smaller.

  1. Communicate. The lucky part of growing up in a tech-heavy era is that FaceTime and texting exist! We love a good movie night and streaming services make it easy to watch together. There is always something new to watch and chat about. Relationships with distance are reliant on trust and communication. Being honest and open is key to good communication. Don’t be afraid to show how you feel! Schedule send text messages if you are busy during the day to still check in. A weekly debrief is a must to recap on all the funny moments in both of your lives.

  2. Schedule visits to see each other. Planning a trip gives each person something to look forward to! Not only do you get to spend time with your significant other but you can explore a new city.  We love to have a countdown so the days go by faster. When the time comes, take in every moment. Every moment is a memory you can look back on when you are feeling sad or lonely. Props to you if you plan a surprise and execute it perfectly. The smile on both of your faces is so worth it!

  1. Send A Friend! This is a company where you can send a stuffed animal to your significant other! Bonus Points if you write a sweet note in the card. Little gifts are ways to show your affection. Anything from handwritten notes to stuffed animals is sure to make your partner feel special. A fan favorite is also a custom paint by number of the two of you. This takes a long time to paint, which just makes the results so worth it.

  2. Find comfort in friends and family. Being apart from your person is hard and you can’t forget to make time for yourself. Invest time in your hobbies, interests, family, and friends. Friendships are just as special as your relationship and require just as much attention and love. Nothing is better than a hug from a friend or a family member when the days are hard.

Here at the Edge we know long distance can be hard but we hope you can use these tips and tricks to make the hard days a little easier.
