AM to PM: The Guide for Day to Night Makeup

Between early morning classes, middle-of-the-day meetings, and evenings out, life is fast-paced, and there is not always enough time to reset your makeup. Rather than redoing your entire face, a few touch ups and enhancements can transform your look in minutes. We here at The Edge are excited to share our best tips for seamless day to night transitions, using the same base but elevating it to fit your nighttime plans.

Base

The most important makeup step is the base, whether it be foundation, concealer, tinted moisturizer or any of the above. Chances are if you’ve had it on all day, it could use a refresh. Utilize translucent powder to absorb oils that are likely on your face from your day. If your base looks dry or patchy, touch it up with your concealer or moisturizer to even your coloring. A little bit of concealer can brighten up the under eyes to remove any tiredness from the day.

Eyes

For a daytime look, a subtle layer of mascara does the trick. For a nighttime look, you want to create a darker, more noticeable eye look. To do this, brighten your eyes with some eyeshadow. Personal preference, are you more of a light shimmer or a dark smokey eye? If you lean toward a darker eye, try adding eyeliner. Either create a sleek wing or smudge the line for a eyeshadow substitution. Try putting highlighter in the corner of your eye to make your eye color pop! Intensify your eyelashes by using an eyelash curler to lift them and add an extra layer of mascara. If your brows have faded, fill them in with a brow pencil or use clear brow gel. Always push your eyebrows up when using brow gel for a fuller brow that stays in place.

Lips

Lip color has the power to transform your entire look within seconds. During the day aim for natural, glossy lips. Keep a chapstick or lip balm on you all day to prepare your lips and prevent them from being dry later! For a night out, line your lips with a red or brown lip liner and fill your lips before topping with a color shade or a gloss on top. Overline and blend with your finger for a more full lip look! Lean into darker shades, mattes and plumping glosses for a long lasting night look.

Finishing Touches

If you want even more glow, add highlighter to your cheekbones and nose bridge to enhance these features. Set the look to last all night with a setting spray. This will lock all of the makeup in and help it melt into the face to look matte for a gorgeous finished look.

Transforming your makeup does not have to be tedious or time consuming, with the right products on hand, it can be elevated in minutes. By refreshing your base, touching up eyes and lips and locking all of the products in, makeup is completely transformed from night to day. Whether you’re coming from class and going for drinks (or anything else in between) these steps will help you feel confident and ready to go without starting over!
