Top 5 Things to Do on a Night In

Excitement of weekends at college is dying down and as the colder days creep in, it’s no wonder there is little eagerness in trekking out into the brutal weather every weekend night. Whilst social events on campus are full of energy and a great way to mingle with fellow students, there is no hurt in staying in every once in awhile. Here are some ways to have a fun weekend with your friends.

Cook:

Cooking meals with friends is always an interesting experience to say the least. Whether you’re a newbie or the next Gordon Ramsay, there are tons of recipes out there for all skill levels. Most dorms on campus have common rooms with kitchens but if you don’t have access to one near your residence hall, you can always schedule a time to use the one in Moseley. Check out our digital site for some paleo friendly recipes you can re- create!

Journal:

Journaling has been around forever. If you haven’t yet started, it’s not too late! All you need is a journal, places like TJ Maxx and Target have some really cute ones. Next, it’s time for you to take control. Cut out cool images from magazines, draw out your favorite movie quotes. This is a platform for you to express yourself, to highlight silly college events, or to mash your inspirations and passions all in one place.

Makeup Tutorials:

Why not kick up your feet and throw it way back to our middle school days. Yes I’m talking about the ones sitting hunched over at your computer screen  surveying in awe as you aim to recreate that glowy holiday look using your well renowned hoola bronzer and the Naked palette. In an industry where looks are constantly changing, you’re never too old to learn new tips and tricks from the basic beauty vloggers. This can be a solo activity or you can get together with friends and make a competition out of who has the best makeup skills.

Book Club:

Yes, it may be Facebook mom esque but what better way to wind down from a long week than discussing the hottest new read with your closest friends? Find a book touching upon a topic you’re all interested in and set a time frame that works for everyone. Schedule meetings every two to four weeks, or as often as you like. Filling your calendar with prior commitments can lessen the stress of feeling like you have to go to a social event every weekend.

Weekend Getaway Trips:

School organized or something individually planned, NC is full of places to discover and explore. Check out campus rec for upcoming trips to nearby places. Elon also has three Zipcars parked around campus you can rent out for a couple hours, or a couple days. You can go to the beach, to hiking trails, or just for a drive into nearby cities like Raleigh or Greensboro for a change of scenery. These are more of daytime activities but coming home after a long day out will give you an excuse not to go out again.
