DIY Denim

By: Katherine Kane No matter your style, size or how much you love your leggings, fall means it’s time to put away the shorts and sundresses and break out your favorite pair of jeans. This season skinnies are slowly starting to fade and more unique denim trends are emerging. Two-toned washes, cropped flares, huge rips, and frayed hems are huge this fall. Many designers are putting out amazing denim creations for prices that most college students would laugh at. The great thing about many of these trends is that they are very easy to create yourself. Just a quick trip to Goodwill and Hobby Lobby will get you a one-of-a-kind pair of jeans that are on trend and on budget. Here are three examples of DIY jeans that are fun and will suit many different looks and styles.

This patch-work trend is back and has been reinvented in this look. Just find some patches that speak to your personal style and iron them right on a distressed pair of jeans. To take it to the next level, undo the hems for the extra frayed look.

To get this shredded denim look all you need are a cheap pair of high-waisted, light wash jeans and a pair of fabric scissors. Focus the rips on or around the knee and remember the wider the rip, the edgier the look. It doesn’t matter how many people try this, no two pair of jeans will look exactly alike.

Since it is all about the hems this season, try adding a cool design or cut up the bottoms of your jeans. This will not only add an unexpected element to your look, it also gives you an opportunity to show off your favorite sneakers or sandals in a new way.
