Girl Boss. The term, first popularized by Sophia Amoruso’s book and Netflix series, has become something much more. It’s a symbol and a new beginning for girls of the millennial generation. Women are no longer inferior subjects in pretty dresses and high heels acting as office eye candy. Women are leaders in the workplace. Women are their own personal brands in the workplace. Women are bosses in the workplace. This is what the Brand Girls strive for.

On Tuesday, September 12, The Brand Girls came to Elon’s campus. The Brand Girls is a company that promotes professional confidence in the workplace, particularly for women, and is committed to teaching women how to network, interview, work confidently and realize their worth in a professional situation.

“We are the Millennial Go-To’s on closing the professional confidence.  We are on the ground change-makers allowing women to bring their dreams, aspirations and voice to the forefront.” -The Brand Girls

Rachael Bozsik, CEO and founder of the company, spoke to a group of about forty-five women who were invited to learn techniques on resume building, LinkedIn, self promoting and overall confidence in the professional world.

Bozsik exemplifies her mission of empowering women to achieve anything they put their mind to, particularly in the workplace and in pursuing their dream jobs.

“We live in a day and age where men overestimate their abilities and women underestimate theirs,” Bozsik said.

She isn't wrong. Women are four times less likely to ask for a raise compared to male colleague and when they ask, it is for three times as less.

“We live in a society where women lack a crucial trait to success: professional confidence. And let us tell you something… we are not sitting on the sidelines.”  - Bozsik

Through The Brand Girls, women can pay $600 for a four-session workshop on improving their workplace confidence, making their resume stand out, and learning how to interview like a professional even when they have limited skills and experience.

Women at Elon enjoyed the uniqueness of the event and the personal connections to their life.

“The presentation went very well;t was very interactive and informative,” said Allie Pelligrino, junior Sigma Kappa member who organized the event.. “Rachael gave many tips on how to land our dream jobs and be happy with a profession.”

In today’s Instagram savy world, making a name and a brand for yourself is important. The event touched upon topics like how to self promote your own personal brand and then how to take it the next step further in measuring analytics, followers, likes and other metrics. to figure out what works best for you.

“KNOWING YOUR PERSONAL BRAND SHIFTS YOU FROM BEING A DESPERATE JOB-SEEKER TO A CHOOSER OF OPPORTUNITIES.” -Bozsik

In the past nine months, the Brand Girls have gained over 439 clients, visited 97 universities, attended 63 sorority events, and had over 50 of their clients’ salaries negotiated. Talk about Girl Power! A campaign ran by girls for girls and changing the image of girls; the embodiment of girl power done right.

Even though programs of female empowerment are few and infrequent, college women should always be reminded that their footprints in the workplace matter, even if they’re made with high heels. Women should accept jobs based on their career dreams and images of themselves, not the ones society or men have laid out for them.

Grab your heels ladies; let’s get to work.
