Beyond Boundaries: Exploring Other Fashion Sections

Everyone’s familiar with fashion categories; men’s, women’s, children, maternity, plus size etc… This division of clothing has taught people to pick a category and stay there, but why? It’s now considered ~cool~ to have your own sense of style, which creates the perfect opportunity to explore some other areas.

The children’s section will always be my favorite for many reasons. Although I am salty that kids no longer experience their awkward fashion phase, the bright colors and sparkles are still so fun and innocent. Lets just say, their clothing is WAY more stylish than when I was twelve. We should all be grateful for this revelation since the prices of children’s clothing is still cheaper. As long as I have access to their clothing, keep the stylish options coming!

This looks like your typical college outfit, but little do you know that the pants are from Justice! That’s right, you can uncover fashionable pieces even in the neon, and sparkle overdose store. As a bonus, they were only $20.

This is a trick to get exactly what you want. I love Patagonia, but I hate the price of it. Luckily, they make the exact same styles in both women’s AND youth.  You wouldn’t have been able to tell that this is a youth style without this inside scoop.

Next, is the lovely men’s section, full of the softest sweatpants and flannels around. I’ve found that their t-shirts are typically cheaper because a women’s cut is apparently “worth” and extra fee. I prefer my shirts boxy, so I always begin my hunt in the men’s section. I found this soft and perfectly oversized men’s white polo shirt in the men’s section for a steal of a price!

This was a double-whammy of savings since it’s in the men section and at the Polo outlets. Now you don’t have to torture your boyfriend with shopping because you’ll both shop in the same section; its a win-win for everyone!

Now that it’s officially fall, the flannels will start to appear. As current fashion designers show, baggy flannels are the way to go. I would personally like to thank my dad for letting me steal one of his. Borrowing one from a Dad or brother is perfect because the worn-in style is so on trend right now!

Embrace the other sections and get excited at what you may find. The best way to cultivate your own style is by going beyond society’s expectations and guidelines. If you try out these looks, make sure to tag us @theedgemag
