5 Fashion-Forward Brands That Support Great Causes
Now more than ever is the time to take action and do what we can to try to solve the many issues we face in the world. While it may seem arbitrary to say that fashion can make a difference, here are five commendable companies that make that statement true. These clothing companies donate a percentage of their proceeds to charity and offer very fashionable styles that you will actually want to wear!
Founded by 24 year old Audrey, this clothing brand ethically makes stylish tees and sweatshirts with powerful messages. The company gives 15% of all of their profits to animal rescue organizations which can help combat climate change and foster the transition to plant-based lifestyles. And, come on, we could all use a statement tee… or twenty.
Created in 2011, the brand began promoting ‘cause art’ and making 7-day cause campaigns. These campaigns sell art, apparel, and accessories all centered around a particular cause; proceeds from these campaigns are donated to nonprofits. Today, Sevenly continues their 7-day campaigns for different companies, but also sells ongoing collections.
Jeff and Ryan created the clothing company in 2012, after meeting each other during their college Semester at Sea study abroad trip. As the pair traveled around Africa, Asia, and Central America, they came across beautiful fabrics and wanted to make a positive impact by supporting the local groups who made them. Today they purchase their fabrics from over 25 different countries to support the artisans and their families, then they donate 10% of their profits to a variety of different charitable organizations.
Helga Douglas founded the company with the intent of creating stylish items that are animal-friendly and produced sustainably. Her brand now includes luxury lingerie, sleepwear, and handbags. For each sale made, 10% of the profits are donated to various charities and organizations. As if this company couldn’t get any cooler, they calculate their carbon footprint every month, from shipping and production! The company offsets their carbon footprint by donating funds to plant trees or to generate alternative energy from wind, solar, and water sources.
Susan Boyar created the clothing brand when she started making earth-friendly tees in her New York apartment. All of Palabra’s items are eco-friendly and made from sustainable sources. Each item of apparel features a multilingual word promoting positivity. On the shirt shown below, verdad means truth. With the purchase of every item, Palabra donates a book to the Chispa Project organization.
It is so important to learn about where the money for our fashion is going, and I think more companies are striving to make an impact in nonprofit communities. If you purchase any of these items, or have your own eco-friendly piece, make sure to tag us @theedgemag
