Activated Charcoal, Next Fad or Here to Stay?
It’s no secret that people do some weird things for the sake of beauty, and a lot of beauty trends come and go. A new trend has surfaced in oral care as well as in other hygienic products. Household name brands are putting activated charcoal in toothpaste. Even Kendall Jenner co-created a brand called Moon that has its own line of charcoal oral care products. So what is it?
Activated charcoal, or activated carbon, is “activated” by processing it in extremely hot temperatures. But don't think that you can start brushing your teeth with the charcoal from your dad's grill. It’s not the same. A grill can’t nearly reach the temperatures needed to “activate” and purify charcoal.
Activated charcoal has a ton of health benefits such as supporting kidney function, whitening teeth, reducing odor and acne, as well as helping cure a hangover (or so it’s been said).
