Fashion According to a Florence Local

Florence is a small city in the Tuscany region of Italy and one of the most popular destinations for study abroad students.

I asked Katrina Murray, a junior at Elon, to send me a week’s worth of outfits that she wore while going to class, enjoying the nightlife, dining by the Duomo, traveling to neighboring Italian regions, and weekend city hopping… you know, the usual.

Casual Class Outfit

A white tank and blue jeans is never a bad outfit.

Walks Around the City

Floral dresses and leather boots make for a versatile outfit, whether it’s summer, winter, or fall.  Keep it easy and breezy like Katrina did here, or add tights and jacket to adapt to the dropping temperatures.

Dinner by the Duomo

In Florence, dinner is definitely the most important meal of the day and another reason to throw on a cute outfit.  A midi skirt and sneakers is the ultimate combination for a cute but casual outfit for dinner.

Night Out at Space

Dressing for a night out doesn’t always mean a body-con dress and heels.  Black jeans paired with pointed boots is a super sophisticated look that’s easy to achieve. Turn your daytime crossbody into a shoulder bag for a more night-time look, and your belongings will be safer.

Wine Tasting in Tuscany

Vineyards make some of the most beautiful backdrops, so this feminine white dress blended seamlessly into the Tuscan sun.

Boat Ride in Lake Como

Lake Como is an über posh resort town, and this black silk midi gives just that vibe. It’s simple and super classy for a boat ride on the lake.

Sunset Dinner in Lake Como

The perfect finishing touch to all outfits… a leather jacket across the shoulders.  It’s a statement and obviously adds an edge to the white crop flares for a casual dinner.

Bundled Up in Amsterdam

Amsterdam is one of the trendiest places to visit for study abroad students. The scenery and restaurants are just too good to pass up, but it’s definitely one of the colder regions. The pink beanie was the perfect juxtaposition to Katrina’s neutral outfit, plus she kept warm all day.
