Review: Maple View's County Line Creamery

As the weather begins to warm up, we’ll be switching out hot soup for cold ice cream. I went on a mission to find the best ice cream near Elon.  Although Smitty’s is good, and rumor has it Acorn sells super yummy chocolate and vanilla milkshakes, I wanted to get off campus to find the best local shop.

During my drive, I stumbled into the town over called Gibsonville. There were so many cute shops so I parked my car and figured I would go into an ice cream place. Lucky enough, around the corner, was County Line Creamery. When I walked in, I was greeted by a nice woman with a very heavy Southern accent who told me all about the history of the shop.

The ice cream is homemade with milk provided by Maple View Farm, a farm about 45 minutes away. Maple View is over 400 acres and has an objective to obtain the most holistic farming techniques and the best dairy in the area. It has been run by the same family for over five generations and the farm is very proud of their sister ice cream shops in the surrounding areas.

Walking in, the decor reminded me of an old-school soda shop. The floors are checkered black and white and there is a lunch counter with old school stools and table cloths. There was a little girl playing on a cow statue and a little boy trying to lick a four foot tall statue of an ice cream cone (unsanitary, but very cute). The workers were accommodating and interested in the fact that I was an Elon student, saying they are looking to hire.

I ordered a scoop of vanilla cookie dough and a scoop of chocolate. As soon as I took my first bite, I knew I had found my new favorite ice cream—it was not only creamier than anything I’d had before, but I could tell it was made with fresh, high-quality ingredients.

If I had to rate it, I would give County Line Creamer a 9/10. So if you’re looking for your new favorite warm-weather spot, go check it out at 113 E Main St, Gibsonville, NC 27249.
