Sorority Fair Showcases Service Work
Elon University's Panhellenic Association held its very first Panhellenic Sorority Philanthropy Fair on September 13, 2019. The event was a Panhellenic project that came together with the help of all nine Panhellenic sororities.
The fair is an event that highlights each organization's philanthropy and advertises their work. It is also an opportunity for first-year students to learn about the service work each organization is responsible for.
Bridgette Strysko is the Vice President of Philanthropy for Elon's Panhellenic Association.
"Panhellenic is so much more than just recruitment, so this kind of gives a great opportunity for all the sororities to showcase what they've been working on for so long and so hard," Strysko says.
The fair took place at Alamance fountain from 3-5 p.m. Not only were all the Panhellenic organizations represented, but so was the Panhellenic national philanthropy, the Circle of Sisterhood.
The Circle of Sisterhood raises financial resources and entities around the world to help remove educational barriers for girls and women facing poverty and oppression.
"We're teaching potential new members that it's more than just each sorority's philanthropies,” Strysko says. “We also have an overarching branch."
In previous years, Elon's Panhellenic hosted a Panhellenic Carnival, which was mainly focused on recruitment. This year, Panhellenic stepped away from recruitment and made it entirely about philanthropy.
"Everything that's being talked about at all the tables is solely about philanthropy," Strysko says. "Philanthropy is a huge part of each organization, so it's really great that we get to showcase that and all the work they've done over the years."
The main purpose of the fair is to let the campus know that Panhellenic is involved in much more than just recruitment.
"There's so much more great work each organization does and also Panhellenic does,” Strysko says. “So I think driving that home is very important.”
