Swiping Turned into Dating
It is no surprise that with the rise of social media and having an app for anything, dating apps have become popular. Prior to dating apps, most couples would be set up by family or friends or meet at college. With this new form of dating, you have access to hundreds of people, right at your fingertips.
By simply downloading a free app and setting up a profile, users are introduced to what seams like an endless stream of new people. Whether you are looking for a casual date, a relationship, or a hookup, there is a dating app for you.
In 2018, The New York Times released an article stating that out of 1,000 couples, 93 met on dating apps. Apps such as Tinder, Hinge, and Bumble are changing the way our generation finds dates. These apps allow people to meet others who may have never crossed paths otherwise. A simple swipe or like on someone’s picture can lead to a relationship that would never had happened before.
These apps are allowing people from different cultures, communities, and lifestyles to meet based on their chemistry. These apps are more efficient than meeting someone at a bar or other places because they allow you to vet out the people you are not interested in and focus on the people who you like. Putting information into the app such as what you are looking for, words to describe yourself, and pictures allow people to narrow their search.
Dating apps are perfect for those who are super busy and don’t have time to be out meeting new people, or for those who are more introverted and get nervous about starting a conversation with someone in person. They also work faster because you can open the app whenever you have free time and begin swiping.
Although there are tons of benefits to dating apps, there can be some drawbacks. Some people may be nervous about meeting a total stranger and too scared to put themselves out there.
Dating apps are definitely not for everyone, but they have been the reason for countless successful relationships and have connected two people who may have never met.
