Britney Spears Battle For Freedom

Britney Spears is an icon, a living legend, a woman who rose to fame so early in her life, toured the world for years, had a residency in Las Vegas, all while being the mother of two children and under the thumb of her father’s conservatorship. Most of us here at The Edge grew up on Britney’s “hit me, baby, one more time” or “oops I did it again” but the Britney we knew wasn’t the REAL Britney.

In the new Netflix documentary “Britney V.S Spears” Britney and those who have worked with her spill the tea about the restraints and rules that were placed against her after her father became her conservator in 2008 after her divorce. What started as something that was supposed to help Britney get back on track after a rough time with mental health, turned into years of pain and suffering at the hands of her own father. She had almost all of her rights stripped from her, she had to call her father and get approval to do something as mundane as driving a car, or going to get a hamburger. Things blew up in the public again when Britney canceled her second Las Vegas residency due to what she said were “family issues” but what turned out to be another round of rehab, which her father happily sent her to.

FREE BRITNEY: one of the largest social movements of our generation. If you used the internet for any part of the past year you must know exactly what we are talking about. For most of us here at the edge we watched as she posted videos on Tik-Tok that brewed conspiracy theories about her using social media as a cry for help. We saw her interesting and quite questionable Instagram posts and stories of her in her LA home. Free Britney was a movement, people were going wild, for some of her newer fans, it was the first many had heard of the conservatorship, and for others, it was a blast from the past that saddened them. People wanted to help they were reaching out and trying to figure out ways to Free Mrs. Britney Spears.

In September of 2021, everyone’s wishes came true, Britney’s father was removed as her conservator, she was a free woman once again. It is crazy to think about the fact that all of her young years were stripped from her. She lived in fear of her father and what he would do if she violated her agreement, but she put on a brave face and continued to perform as if everything was normal. Britney is a strong woman, she deserves this and so much more. She powered through some of the worst that life could through at her and now has such a bright future ahead of her, honestly, it is inspiring.
