What Not to Wear: Restyling Last Season’s Wardrobe

Winter weather is blowing in rapidly and with the change in season comes breaking out last year’s layering pieces and figuring out just how you can transform and restyle those items folded in storage bin at the back of your closet. Think of it as shopping your own closet and discovering well-loved items of the past to be worn in fresh, on-trend way today.

Let’s start with restyling the boring neutral sweater, most of us have thrown on for years. No matter the material, knit pattern or boring shade, when restyling – where there is a will there is a way.

Consider pairing it with a pair of leather pants? Or maybe belted with a midi skirt? Or a contrasting button down in a warm winter evergreen or burgundy shade.

A fun way to include sweaters as a layer is by tying them in different ways across your shoulders or body. This adds a unique texture to a dressed-up business look or – your favorite pair of sweats or trousers and a white tee.

Now this one might just be an unpopular opinion but hear me out folks – restyling “out of style” jean silhouettes. For me this looks like skinny jeans in about every wash and a pair of boyfriend denim that has seen a tad too much distress. I say take those bad boys out and elevate them with a few powerful pieces. For instance, a statement jacket and some bold accessories. I personally love the look of loafers with a form fitting jean and an oversized top.

For boyfriend or mom jeans, try sleekly fitting long sleeves, cropped sweaters, and the perfect edgy fall bootie.

Lastly, the fall cult classic – booties. Now, while boots are evergreen across the trend cycle some ankle booties have lost their luster. So, I’ve come up with a solution, hide them with wide leg jeans. The jean style that is trendier than ever is the perfect way to show a hint of footwear from a few years back within your outfits today.
