The Top Hispanic Albums of the Decade

Hisapnic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15th to October 15th. During this month, Mexico and various Central American countries such as Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Chile celebrate their independence.

Hispanic Heritage Month began when President George H.W. Bush first declared it a 31-day celebration on September 14, 1989. A person is considered hispanic if they (or their family) are from a Spanish speaking country. 

In honor of celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, we wanted to highlight the top 10 hispanic albums of the decade. 

1. Fórmula, Vol. 1 (Deluxe Edition)—Romeo Santos (2012)

Romeo Santos' album Fórmula, Vol. 1 (Deluxe Edition) was the best selling album of 2012. Every hispanic mom loves him. This album is still being played and even though it’s not that old, the songs are considered classics. 

2. La Misma Gran Señora—Jenni Rivera (2013)

This album was released shortly after Rivera passed away in 2012 and became the top album of the year 2013. This album is in the regional Mexican genre. Rivera became one of the top selling artists in a male-dominated genre; what a queen TBH.  

3. Fórmula, Vol. 2—Romeo Santos (2014)

Romeo did it again. After releasing vol 2 of his album Formula, it quickly took the top of the charts in the year 2014. 

4. Los Dúos—Juan Gabriel (2015)

Los Dúos, or “the duos” in English, was an album by Juan Gabriel featuring a variety of artists. This album won the Best Album of the Year at the 2015 Latin American Music Awards. 

5. Los Duos 2—Juan Gabriel (2016)

Los Dúos 2 was the second album under the title Los Dúos released in 2016. This album also featured various artists such as Marc Anthony, Carlos Rivera, Alejandro Fernández and Wisin. 

6. Fenix—Nicky Jam (2017)

Nicky Jam in 2017 was such an iconic time. Everyone was playing this album during this year. It appeared on six charts for 52 weeks. 

7. Odisea—Ozuna (2018)

This album, which was released in 2017, features artists like J. Balvin, Nicky Jam, Anuel AA, De La Ghetto, and Zion and Lennox. Ozuna’s album appeared on three charts for 120 weeks.

8. X 100PRE—Bad Bunny (2019)

X 100PRE stands for “por siempre,” or “forever” in English. This album peaked at number 11 in the United States and appeared on four charts for 160 weeks.

9. YHLQMDLG—Bad Bunny (2020)

Bad Bunny released this album during quarantine and it was immediately a hit. Due to covid, clubs were closed and people had to wait to enjoy this album to its fullest extent. YHLQMDLG stands for “yo hago lo que me da la gana,” translating in English to “I do whatever I want'.' This album is still played a lot and it hasn’t gotten old.

10. El Último tour del mundo—Bad Bunny (2021)

Once again, Bad Bunny dominated the charts with his album El Último tour del mundo, or in English “the last tour of the world”. It was the best selling Latin album of 2021 in the United States.  

Honorable Mention: 

Un Verano sin ti—Bad Bunny (2022)

So far, Bad Bunny has taken the top spot in not just the Latin charts, but the overall charts too. He is one of the most streamed artists on all platforms. His album Un Verano Sin Ti came out May of this year and is being played at clubs, parties—everywhere. His album is a must-have on all playlists. As of today, his album has been in the number one spot for 10 consecutive weeks.
