Exploring Colorado

It’s hard not to love therapeutic and relaxing beach vacations, but sometimes you’re looking for something a little more adventurous. One of the most beautiful states in the country, Colorado, is home to rocky mountain ranges, deep valleys and rolling hills, offering a perfect alternative getaway. It is a haven for outdoor activities and exploration with something to do in every season. Whether you want to fill your vacation days with adrenaline-boosting activities such as skiing and hiking or unwind in relaxing hot springs, Colorado is the perfect vacation destination.

Colorado is big on exploring the outdoors, and there are countless activities that can satisfy an adventurer’s soul. The state has four national parks, the most popular one being the Rocky Mountain National Park — less than two hours from Denver. Hike some of the many trails in the Rockies and experience the vast wildlife and spectacular views of mountains, valleys, waterfalls and lakes. When you finish your hike, grab some dinner in the nearby town of Estes Park and explore the cute shops around town.

Unsurprisingly, Colorado has world-class ski resorts with some amazing skiing and snowboarding experiences due to the state's plentiful snow, high-altitude mountains and 300 days of sunshine. We at The Edge highly recommend Breckinridge, Colorado — a picturesque mountain town with fantastic skiing and great restaurants and shops.

If adventurous activities outdoors aren’t your thing or you just need to take some time to unwind, there are still plenty of other things available for your entertainment. Colorado is home to dozens of hot springs that can soothe your sore muscles and relax your mind, all while providing incredibly scenic views. Many of the hot springs are also part of resorts and spas so you can get the full relaxation package. Some popular hot spring spots are located in Pagosa Springs, Glenwood Springs, Steamboat Springs and Ouray.

Social drinkers will thrive in Colorado because there are fantastic breweries and cider houses all over the state. Colorado holds beer festivals all year round, including the Great American Beer Festival, an annual beer festival held in Denver every September. But if alcohol isn’t your thing, attend a music festival instead! From small-town band concerts to large-scale music festivals, there are tons of music opportunities as well. If you are in the state between May and September, make sure to catch a concert at the Red Rocks Amphitheater — Colorado’s coolest concert venue. With giant red sandstone rocks jutting out from the stage, the view will give you a truly unique experience.
