October's Most Anticipated Horror Movies
The month of October isn’t complete without hot apple cider, chunky sweaters, and a handful of scary movies saved to our queue. . Every fall, Hollywood trades in the romance and laughter for darkness and gore, releasing the most terrifying plot lines just in time for Halloween. As a scary movie fanatic myself, I eagerly await autumn and all the scary movie releases that come along with it.
Recent films have set the bar high for upcoming horror releases, providing viewers with unthinkable fear and plenty of nightmares. According to Fortune Magazine, Stephen King’s IT , which came out (add premiere date), made over $100 million in its opening weekend in the U.S. alone, breaking records as “the most successful launch weekend for any horror movie.”
Here’s a rundown of October’s spookiest movies that you won’t want to miss.
Release date: September 29
Featured at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, this film follows a story of two teenage boys living a normal life in suburbia; that is until a traumatic incident takes a violent turn, stealing their innocence. This plot deals with the classic coming of age theme, as well as the good versus evil, courage ,fear, and tragedy.

Think The Strangers meets Home Alone with a little bit of Scream thrown in there. This holiday thriller tells the story of a babysitter who must defend two twelve-year-old children from a mystery intruder.
3. Dementia 13

As college students, this movie’s plot might be one of our worst nightmares. In this murder mystery, directed by Christopher Landon, a college student becomes trapped in a constant loop of the day she was murdered , forced to relive the terrifying details until she discovers who her killer is.
5. Leatherface
Release date: October 20
If you prefer scary movies that involve gore, screaming, and the occasional chainsaw, then this one’s for you. Leatherface tells the tale of a deranged slasher who escapes a mental hospital, taking a young nurse with him.
6. Snowman
Release date: October 20
While this title may sound a bit misleading, this British crime thriller is based off the best-seller book by Jo Nesbo. Nesbo is known for his twisted, yet addictive murder-mystery books, and Snowman takes it to the next level, following the investigation of an unforgiving serial killer known as “The Snowman.”
7. Jigsaw

I don’t know about you, but when I hear the name “Jigsaw,” I immediately flash back to sleepless nights in middle school, terrified of the red-eyed, balding doll from Saw. Just when you thought it was over, the unforgettable franchise is back with an even more twisted storyline and a new set of characters, following the investigation of a serial killer who is eerily similar to the killer in the previous films.
