6 Styling Tricks to Get You in the Fall Mood

It’s officially October in North Carolina. It’s not exactly brisk out quite yet, so I won’t tell you to break out your over-sized sweater or riding boots, but there are a few things you can do to begin transforming your summer looks for the cooler months. Here are some of my favorite styling tips and tricks to channel some fall vibes in your outfits.

Try out a brimmed hat. Think Lady Gaga, Joanne album cover. Not only does it instantly make your outfit ten times trendier, it also covers up a bad hair day in a second.

Rock some cool socks. Grab your favorite pair of mid-calf socks and throw them on with a pair of high-tops instead of those boring no-show socks that will roll down your foot anyway. For this look always remember: the crazier the better.

Wrap something around your waist. It can be a flannel, a hoodie or a sweater — whatever you have, just throw it on over your outfit. It adds another layer without suffocating you. Plus, it’s a great way to define your waist in a loose dress!

Add some fur. It’s still too hot to break out the lined boots, but you can incorporate fur in other ways to give your look some warmth. Get a cheap fur pom-pom keychain and clip it to your bag. Throw on a jacket with some shearling detail. Going for something a bit more unusual? Fur earrings and jewelry will add a touch of fall glamour to your look.

Tie a silk scarf around your neck. Find one with a fun, colorful print and pair it with a neutral outfit to keep the look simple and polished. You can also tie one through the belt loops on your jeans, in your hair, or on your purse. Even the French girls will turn heads for you.

Change up your silhouette. Instead of layering up, try lengthening your look. Cardigans, button-downs or duster jackets that hit at your knee or lower are a great way to transition into fall. Pile on long necklaces for some added drama.
